Should You Upgrade The Camera Body, The Lens, Or Both?

It’s a hard decision and a complex one when it comes to knowing when to upgrade your camera body. Like most things, a camera can have memories behind it or be easy to use. Still, there are things that you need to look for to know if you need to update your camera or lens. Let’s find out what those signs are and what to look for. Expert photographer, D. Scott Carruthers gives us some tips on what to look for when you’re ready to purchase a new camera body or lens.

Corrosion

Now there are obvious signs you should update your camera body, especially if you have a point and shoot camera (sometimes called a digital camera). If your camera is visibly broken or damaged, then it’s time to upgrade your camera. When you go to put batteries in your camera, and you find your batteries have signs of corrosion, you may need a new camera. If you try and open or close your camera’s built-in lens, then it may be time for a new camera.

Features

There are also subtle things that you should look for that could mean an upgrade is in order. If the clarity of your photos are not the quality you want, it might be time for a new camera. If the camera you have doesn’t have all the features you currently want or need, then it might be time to go camera shopping. If your camera is not working the way you want it to, you may need a new camera.

Lens Options

Some professional cameras have a separate lens. So how do we know when to upgrade your lens? Well, some of the other circumstances apply. If your lens is visibly damaged, then it’s time to upgrade or replace it. If your lens no longer works, then it’s time to upgrade. This is a good thing though since the lens can have features upgraded on it all the time, kind of like cars.

Pixels

Whether you are looking to upgrade and replace either your camera or lens, you need to figure out a few things. What kind of job do you want this camera to do? Are you a professional What kind of megapixels do you want to work with? Does name brand matter for your camera or lens? If there is a lens special to a camera you own or are upgrading to, it will matter.

There are a few things to keep in mind while looking at cameras and lens. One big one is the price and where to shop. If you have a lot to spend, you could go with the pricier version of what you want. Other times you will want to trim your budget a little to get the less expensive version. Keep in mind what you want and what you will be using it for. That’s the biggest consideration of all.
